African Safari Wildlife Park prides itself on providing guests with an interactive animal experience, promoting the appreciation and conservation of all living things. We are looking for passionate, dedicated, outstanding individuals to help us achieve this mission.

African Safari is a seasonal facility open from March-November, with a peak season from May-September. An ideal candidate would be available during our peak summer season. All staff will be expected to work most weekends and holidays. Interns are expected to commit to a minimum of 8 weeks.

The Seasonal Zookeeper/Internship positions will have the opportunity to work with a variety of animals, from the Giant Giraffe to the Tiny Tarantula. These positions entail being cross-trained in all animal-related positions. In line with our mission, those hired will be working in both Guest-Facing Operations areas of the Park, as well as behind-the-scenes areas alongside year-round Zookeepers.

Animal-Related Operations Positions include (but are not limited to):

  • Education Programs Staff (Presenting and Handling)
  • Animal Experience Attendant (Monitor Aviary Adventure, Tortoise Feedings, Porcupine Feedings, Camel Rides)
  • Drive-Thru Guest Relations (Monitor Guest and Animal Interactions)
  • Front/Back Gate (Inform Guests on Park Rules, Distribute Animal Feed to Guests)

Behind-The-Scenes Keeper Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing proper care and welfare of animals, such as by preparing animal diets and implementing enrichment
  • Cleaning/disinfecting of animal stalls, animal enclosures, keeper and common use space, and the public area around them
  • Unloading and stocking/organizing hay, straw, and animal feed
  • Assisting Keepers and Veterinarians with procedures or treatments when necessary
  • Utilizing Animal Care Software to maintain animal records and observations

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Must pass pre-employment screening
  • Ability to remain active and on feet for several hours and in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and move 50-75 pounds
  • Must provide a negative TB test
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable learning to operate farm equipment (past experience not required)
  • Background with or formal education in animal-related field (such as Biology, Zoology, or Wildlife Biology) highly preferred
